    Engineer (Mechanical), South Normanton

    Purpose of the role is to provide efficient and cost effective mechanical design engineering support to the Central Branch.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
    Minimum Qualifications
    Relevant Degree or Equivalent in Experience with chartered status
    Preferred Qualifications
    Mechanical Engineer

    Experience
    Significant experience in Front End Design of Power Plant and in particular utility boilers, relating to “New Build” or existing Retrofit Upgrade Markets

    KEY COMPETENCIES
    Mechanical engineer with hands on experience in the design of Pressure Parts or Hot Structures, or both, associated with large utility power boilers within the “New Build” or Retrofit Upgrade markets. This will include experience in the design of:
    Boiler Pressure Parts / Pressure Vessels:
    • Boiler tube, pipe, header & manifold components
    • Associated integral Supporting Philosophies & Pressure Part Attachments with the above noted components
    • Boiler Ancillary Plant Pressure Vessels
    • Interconnecting Piping Systems

    Hot Structures:
    • Boiler sling components
    • Suspension deck components
    • Framing/buckstays components
    • Calculating boiler movements
    • Flues & Ducts & associated Support / Restraint Philosophies
    They will have experience of the following to meet the stringent conditions applicable to the above noted components / systems.
    • Material selection recognising manufacturing process limitations to provide cost effective safe component design
    • Knowledge & competency in the use & application of all relevant National, European & International Boiler Codes, Design Codes & Standards to provide safe compliant component design
    • Production of Technical Specifications for component materials, “Out sourced” Design / Manufacturing Services, Propriety Equipment / Plant item supply & Protective Systems
    • Familiarity with component manufacturing & welding processes, Non Destructive Examination techniques & their limitations in relation to component design
    • Knowledge of the Boiler functionality & how it works, both in terms of Pressure Part processes & Hot Structural mechanisms associated with Boiler temperatures & thermal movement
    • Capability to conduct Technical Assessments of Vendor Tender Quotations relating to component manufacture, manufacturing services, propriety equipment or protective systems supply in compliance with project requirements
    • Capability to conduct a Technical Assessment of the competency of potential “Out sourced” Design Houses / Consultancies to meet project requirements
    • Capability to assess & sentence mechanical design aspects of non-conformances to engineering deliverables. These could be reported from the quality surveillance of material supply, manufacturing, shipping, erection & commissioning
    • Competent in the use of Computer Software Packages such as Microsoft Office and other specific design packages e.g. PROBAD, STAAD
    • Knowledge & awareness of Industry Health & Safety legislation / requirements
    • Experience of safe working practices on operational Power Station Plant, in relation to conducting on-site surveys, or other investigative work on operational plant & knowledge of Safe Systems of Work / Personal Safety, would be advantageous e.g. Safety Passport, Permit to Work system

    KEY DUTIES
    Candidates will work within a team of 4-5 reporting to the Project Engineer and Technical Authority. Reading and Checking Drawings, liaising with Draughtsperson, checking calculations and collating technical information on a central spreadsheet to highlight any issues to the Project Engineer.
    Execution and management of design proposals in area of competence.
    Execution and management of allotted tasks and associated documentation and management of time.
    Compliance with National/International Legislation, Regulations and Codes, Technical Manuals, Technical Standards, Specifications and Business Operating Procedures appropriate to allotted tasks and associated documentation.
    Liaise and work proactively with all necessary parties in the execution of allotted tasks and associated documentation.
    Identification and notification, in accordance with Business Operating Procedures, of deficiencies in and improvements to Products, Business Operating Procedures, Technical Manuals, Technical Standards and Technical Tools.
    Identification and notification, in accordance with Business Operating Procedures, of problems, opportunities and risks.
    Presentation and negotiation of engineering and technical issues.
    Maintain personal “Professional Development Record”.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
    Meeting both the requirements and needs and satisfying the reasonable expectations of our internal and external customers to ensure customer satisfaction.
    Provision of quality, timely and contract award winning proposal designs and quality, timely and profit margin enhancing contract designs to enhance Company turnover and profitability.
    Execution and management of allotted tasks and associated documentation to quality, time and cost to facilitate quality, timely and cost effective execution of the Project(s).
    Compliance with National Laws and Regulations in the territory in which the design and engineered product is to be utilised to ensure product acceptability.
    Compliance with Business Operating Procedures to facilitate quality, timely and cost effective execution of the Project(s) and ensure maintenance of the Company’s BS EN ISO 9000 accreditation.
    Timely identification and notification to the Project Team of problems and risks and proactively working with the Project Team in their evaluation and resolution to avoid or mitigate any detrimental impact on the Project and Company.
    Continuing self Professional Development to maintain, if not expand, the level and range of competencies.
    Satisfactory completion and maintenance of “Professional Development Record” (PDR)
